Preventative works, State Highway 1. Slumping of the road was identified and Opus/Ancor Loc, worked together on a design that would require a small amount of excavation of the road surface, Installation of vertical Geo-Drill micro piles.
The Geo-Drill micro piles were drilled in with a light weight drill rig, through the sandy top layer and into the rock below. Grout tied the Ignimbrite boulders together and filled any cavities between the rock and sandy ground. Large washer plates at the top of each pile transferred the down pressure from the road too each pile. A specifically designed base layer was designed to transfer the pressure from the tarmac to the washers.
